Bob’s Containers sells shipping container homes, offices, restrooms and custom containers to customers outside the continental U.S. Through our preferred logistics partners, we can arrange ocean freight to Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, the Bahamas, Bermuda, Jamaica, Hawaii and islands throughout the Caribbean and Pacific, as well as other international destinations. We’re very familiar with the international shipping process and CSC container certification, so your unit is prepared and documented correctly before it leaves the dock.
Islands and Destinations We Ship To
We can arrange ocean freight to most island and international destinations with a commercial port, including:
- U.S. territories and states: Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands (St. Thomas, St. Croix and St. John), Hawaii and Guam
- Atlantic: Bermuda, the Bahamas and the Turks and Caicos Islands
- Caribbean: Jamaica, the Cayman Islands, the Dominican Republic, Aruba, Curaçao, Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago, St. Lucia, Antigua and Barbuda, St. Kitts and Nevis, Grenada, St. Martin and the British Virgin Islands
- Central and South America: Belize, Panama, Costa Rica and Guyana
Don’t see your island? Call us. If it has a port that handles containers, we can usually get a unit there.
How International Shipping Works
- Quote and planning. Tell us which unit you want, your destination port and where it will sit on your property. We’ll recommend the right shipping method and include a freight estimate with your quote.
- CSC compliance and preparation. We confirm the unit meets the certification and documentation requirements for the way it will travel, and prepare it for the trip.
- Transport to the port. Our preferred logistics partners move your unit from our yard in the Austin area to the departure port.
- Ocean freight. Your unit ships to the destination port. Transit time depends on the route and vessel schedules, and we’ll give you an estimate up front.
- Arrival and final delivery. Once the unit clears customs, it’s delivered to your site based on your location and site conditions. We help coordinate this last leg so you know what to expect.
CSC Container Certification
Containers moving in international trade are governed by the International Convention for Safe Containers (CSC), and shipping lines expect units to be properly certified and plated. Modifications such as cutting in doors and windows can affect a container’s certification, which is where a lot of first-time international buyers run into delays.
We know the CSC requirements and the inspection and documentation process well. We’ll make sure your unit is prepared and documented for the shipping method it travels under, so it isn’t held up at the port.
What to Know Before You Ship
- Import duties and fees. Duties, taxes and port fees vary by destination and are paid on arrival. We’ll help you understand the paperwork your destination requires.
- Local rules. Zoning, permitting and building requirements differ from island to island. Check with your local authority before you order, and we’ll share any documentation we can provide.
- Site access. Plan for how the unit will be offloaded and set on your property. Depending on access, that may be a tilt trailer or a crane. We’ll talk through the options with you.
- Timing. International orders take longer than domestic delivery. Building in extra lead time keeps your project on schedule.
