Buying a Shipping Container
If you’re looking into buying a shipping container, you’ve come to the right place. Bob’s Containers was built with the intention of supporting sustainable communities and spreading our knowledge to all of those looking to expand their own. One of the most common questions involves the process and expectations. We recommend you review this guide thoroughly before/during your shipping container purchase. You may have been directed to this page by your container specialist or you may have ended up here on your own, either way, we are glad you made it! We are always here to help, and rest assured, we will not let you make a bad decision. It really is a no brainer!
Interested in Multi-Container Build?
The discovery phase is among the most important because it sets the stage for the progression of the project and the final result you expect to receive. Our team of experts can certainly advise and consult, but having a good idea of the purpose, functionality, and location of your container will help kick off the project more smoothly. You can either browse and select one of our models available, elect to build it yourself with varying levels of help, or bring your own custom design to us for a quote. We will say upfront, building a container home out of multiple containers typically surpasses the cost of a traditional stick and frame home. Most of the options available on our website are significantly cheaper than traditional housing and office options. We are available to discuss whatever needs you may have during this phase as well as the rest.
Once we have a good grasp of the needs for the project, we will create a custom quote related to the services we expect to provide. Whether you are getting one of our DIY kits, a prebuilt, or on-site built, you will receive a quote in this manner. This quote is non-binding and opens the door for you and your container specialist to fine-tune the order. In this phase, we finalize expectations and exact specifications to ensure you are fully comfortable with what you will be receiving on delivery day. Once your quote is optimized accordingly, we will send you your invoice. We have options available to pay in full or finance your shipping container with monthly installments. Each build requires a portion down to kick off the project, typically 50%, determined by your project individually.
Now is the time we get our hands dirty. We take the design we have worked so hard together on, and turn it into the shipping container you are looking for. Our team of welders and builders have put together all kinds of awesome containers and we are certain we can execute to your specifications. As we work through your build, you will receive updates from us. You always have the option to reach out for updates as well. Your container specialist will bring you up to speed on expectations when you reach this phase as build times fluctuate according to demand. This is also a great time to prepare the area you plan to place your container.
Preparation for Your New Container
Preparing to receive your container is pivotal to a successful drop-off. We will advise you through the whole process. Preparing your land includes understanding access points, leveling the ground, clearing any overhanging limbs, and more depending on your case. We use slide-off trailers, so maneuverability is a little less challenging than something requiring a crane for delivery. As with preparation, we will help you to understand the places our trucks can get into and out of well. This eliminates almost all possibility of catastrophe on delivery day.
Outfit Your Container
You are now the proud owner of one of Bob’s Shipping Containers. We are sure you will find as much pride in the product as we do and are always here to support you with questions you may have. If you’re feeling a little extra generous, you can even share your buildout and furnishings with our social media accounts. Congratulations! Enjoy your new shipping container.
